If you get a chance take a drive up to the Gleniff Horseshoe Valley in Co. Sligo. The road leads you round a stunning amphitheatre formed during the last ice age . You first pass an old barytes mill from the 19th century which is also the location of a walkway through native irish woodland .As you continue the road passes the cliffs of Annacoona where small mine entrances are visible high up on the cliff. Up on the cliffs behind the old ruin of the school you can see what according to legend is the cave where Diarmuid and Grainne spent their last night.
As the road descends you pass the very distinctive Benwiskin Mountain and ahead a great view of Donegal Bay and Mullaghmore.
The cottage ruin I photographed was one of a few you will pass on the road . This one caught my eye because the old tree limbs seemed to be reaching out towards the ruin. It gave you the impression that they were slowly reclaiming their ground.
